In recognition of the growing need to promote safe driving and improve the security of our communities, the non-profit organization soberRide was created to provide complimentary cab rides on holidays associated with high levels of drinking – such as New Year’s Eve and Halloween.

SoberRide represents a comprehensive, community-based effort that aims to raise awareness of the dangers of driving while intoxicated. It also encourages and supports making responsible choices by providing safe alternative transportation to the public. 2002 marked the first year of the program, which provided more than 600 rides home to would be drunk drivers in Austin.
